Threshold - debut novel available from Moose House Publications

Threshold by Angela J. Reynolds

"Angela J. Reynolds' debut novel, for middle-grade readers, takes us to a coastline in Cape Breton where there are crises on dry land and the seals in the water are much more than they seem." -- from the publisher's catalogue

Twelve-year-old Terra is spending the summer in Cape Breton with her aunt Kendall while her mom takes care of her younger brother, Dylan, who has fallen very ill. Terra spends time by the ocean and befriends a mermaid called Minne, who takes her under the sea and introduces her to the Murgelt people. Terra finds an artifact that might belong to them and, despite interference from Alise, the  daughter of Kendall's new girlfriend, Terra unravels a family mystery for both the Murgelt and for Alise.

This book is for readers who love magical environments, character-driven stories, fantasy, and a hint of mystery.

What readers are saying...

"Threshold, a tale of friendship, family, and great derring-do, is a highly addictive read. Its compelling and engrossing nature is enhanced by the lyrical beauty of Reynolds’ prose. Highly recommended."

- Read the full review by Keira Soleore

"The shore of Nova Scotia pulses with life in this entertaining novel about mermaids, shape-shifting seals, stolen treasure and a young girl’s love for her little brother. Threshold  made me wish for a summer on Cape Breton with moon ropes guiding me to the underwater world of the Murgelt."

-- Gennifer Choldenko, award-winning author of the 'Al Capone at Alcatraz' books

"THRESHOLD is a treasure filled with treasures. Enchanting, engrossing, and utterly (pardon the pun) immersive. This stellar debut earns the highest praise I can possibly give: my tough and choosy children's literature prof at university would have loved it - and everyone else will, too!"

- Troy Wilson, author of "Hat Cat" and other picture books
